24 July, Kathmandu. An interim government has been formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
Yunus took oath as the chief advisor of the interim government on Thursday night. He has formed a 17-member cabinet, including Nasid Islam and Asif Mahmood, two leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement.
Former Brigadier General M Sakhawat Hussain is also in the Cabinet.
Yunus, who agreed to lead the interim government as per the proposal of the student leaders, reached Dhaka only on Thursday.
The then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on 21st and left the country after the protest started by the students against the government employment quota. Immediately, the army chief said that he would hold a press conference and form an interim government.
The student leaders put forward the name of Yunus saying that they will not accept the government led by the army. He demanded to dissolve the parliament.
President Mohammad Shahabuddin announced that the Nobel laureate Yunus would be the interim government along with the dissolution of the parliament as per the demands of the students after all-party discussions.
